Sports commentator turned political firebrand Stephen A. Smith isn’t closing the door on a possible 2028 presidential campaign — and he’s making it clear that desperate times might call for desperate measures.
In a new interview with Complex’s Speedy Morman, the ESPN host made waves by hinting that he’s still considering a future White House bid. “I’ll leave the door open,” Smith said, signaling that his political ambitions may not be dead yet.

“You’re saying that I switched positions. I haven’t switched positions. I said, I’ve been compelled after talking to my pastor and numerous politicians who I would not name,…they asked me to leave the door open, so I’ll leave it open,” Smith emphasized during the sit-down.
While he joked that taking the presidency would mean “a huge damn pay cut,” Smith also hinted the next few years could change everything.
