A bitter fight inside the Democratic Party is now spilling into one of the country’s most closely watched Senate races, with Sen. John Fetterman openly challenging Michigan Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed over his continued association with controversial streamer Hasan Piker.
The dispute centers on a decision El-Sayed has shown little interest in reversing: continuing to campaign alongside Piker despite years of inflammatory remarks that have drawn widespread criticism.
Piker’s most notorious controversy dates back to 2019, when he made a shocking statement about the September 11 terrorist attacks during a livestream.
