In a tragic and disturbing turn of events, a Ferguson, Missouri, police officer was critically injured during a protest marking the 10th anniversary of Michael Brown’s death. The incident occurred outside the city’s police station, where protesters gathered to commemorate Brown, an unarmed Black teenager whose death at the hands of a white officer sparked nationwide protests and became a key moment in the Black Lives Matter movement.
Ferguson Police Chief Troy Doyle confirmed that Officer Travis Brown, who joined the department in January, suffered a severe brain injury after being violently assaulted by a protester. “He is in an area hospital right now fighting for his life,” Doyle stated during a press conference on Saturday.

The protest, which had initially been peaceful, turned violent when a group of agitators began to damage property at the police station. As officers moved in to make arrests, the situation quickly escalated. Officer Brown was knocked to the ground by one of the suspects, causing him to hit his head and suffer the life-threatening injury. Doyle described the attack, stating that the suspect “knocked him backward with his shoulder,” leading to the officer’s critical condition.
