In his interview, Comer didn’t hold back, pointing fingers directly at Fauci for allegedly allowing this type of research to continue, despite the risks. Cain pressed Comer on who exactly authorized the funding for the dangerous experiments.
“Well, this is all on Fauci because Fauci lied to everyone. This gain-of-function probably started during the Obama administration. It went on during the first Trump administration,” Comer said. “It went on while Joe Biden was president, all the way till people started suspecting that this was taking place.”
Comer Claims Fauci Lied Repeatedly
Comer did not mince words when it came to Fauci’s public statements about gain-of-function research. According to Comer, the House Oversight Committee’s investigation concluded that Fauci had not been truthful about the extent of U.S. taxpayer involvement in the Wuhan lab’s risky experiments.
“What happened when Fauci said there was no gain-of-function being conducted at Wuhan? The American tax dollars weren’t taking place. The COVID-19 didn’t start in Wuhan,” Comer said. “All of these were lies. We know these are lies.”
Comer emphasized that the committee had traced U.S. funding to a New York-based organization that funneled grants to the Wuhan lab, potentially tying taxpayer dollars directly to the controversial research.
Pressure Mounts for Perjury Charges
As the investigation deepens, pressure is mounting on Congress to take action against Fauci for allegedly lying under oath. When asked if Fauci might face perjury charges, Comer said he hoped that former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi would take up the case.
“Well, Rand Paul and I both have said publicly, we hope that there are charges for Dr. Fauci. This is something that we hope Pam Bondi will take up. I think the evidence is clear,” Comer said.
Comer noted that Bondi has access to internal National Institutes of Health (NIH) records that could provide crucial evidence in any legal proceedings against Fauci, a significant advantage over prior congressional inquiries.
“Now, the Trump administration should have access to it. So it should be a lot easier case for Bondi moving forward because the evidence should be there and there should be people willing to come forward to testify against Dr. Fauci,” Comer added.
With potential charges looming, the spotlight remains firmly fixed on Fauci as the push for accountability intensifies.
