McAfee’s blunt remarks sent shockwaves across social media, with leftists immediately targeting him as a Trump supporter. The backlash was swift, but McAfee refused to apologize for his passionate defense of America and its anthem.
McAfee Fires Back at Critics
Addressing the uproar on his show, McAfee stood firm in his stance. He acknowledged that Canadians took offense to his comments, but he made it clear that he was reacting to their disrespectful treatment of his country’s anthem.
“Now Canada, listen, there’s been some things said to me from Canadians that I guess I respect because of the passion that you have for your country — which I hope you understand that I was showing the same for mine. You booed my country,” McAfee declared.
The WWE commentator made it clear that for him, the national anthem is deeply personal and represents more than just a song.
“My entire life when somebody boos the national anthem is ‘f–k you’ … So anytime I’ve heard somebody boo our national anthem my national reaction is, ‘let’s fight,’” he added.
Political Tensions and Fan Reactions
Many attribute this trend of booing the U.S. anthem in Canada to statements made by former President Donald Trump, who once floated the idea of annexing Canada as America’s 51st state. That notion enraged some Canadians, leading to hostility during American sporting events held in their country.
Despite the backlash from social media activists, McAfee refused to be bullied into silence. He clarified that his criticism was aimed at the moment of disrespect, not at Canadian citizens themselves.
“I understand that there are political differences at the current moment between us and Canada… But I feel like anytime I think of Canada… I don’t immediately think about what Canada is doing in the political sphere. I think of the people of Canada… I think of the magical times I had up in Niagara Falls as a teenager… I think about good times,” McAfee continued.
While the controversy raged on, McAfee reassured his audience that he still holds respect for Canadians but wasn’t going to let their actions slide.
“… I understand, now, from the Canadians that they have a lot more passion for their country than I could have imagined. A lot of terrible things have been said about me, and I understand it.”

But he made his position clear: “I didn’t say Canadians were terrible, I said your country was. You booed us, I said you were terrible, let’s shake hands and move along. I still love Canadians… I hope it gets settled.”
The Debate Over Anthem Respect
McAfee’s fiery response has reignited a long-standing debate about respect for national anthems at sporting events. The left wasted no time in attacking him for defending American pride, but his refusal to back down has only strengthened his support among conservatives and patriots who believe national symbols deserve respect.
While the debate continues, one thing is certain—McAfee won’t be apologizing for standing up for the United States. And with tensions high, this likely won’t be the last time national anthem protests make headlines.
