New York Attorney General Letitia James seems to have only one move in her political playbook: Sue Donald Trump. Even as she faces serious real estate fraud allegations herself — backed by far stronger evidence than anything she ever dragged Trump to court over — James is doubling down on her favorite tactic.
On Monday, James proudly announced that she is spearheading a lawsuit against the Trump administration, leading a coalition of 20 Democrat-run states in a legal battle over Health and Human Services (HHS) budget cuts. According to Fox News, James claimed these cuts represent the most “sweeping and unlawful assault on public health” America has ever seen.
During her press event, James didn’t hold back. She accused the Trump administration of breaking “hundreds” of laws, painting a picture of chaos and devastation supposedly unleashed by the budget changes.
In the actual lawsuit, the coalition writes, “None of these layoffs were necessary to accommodate a funding shortfall – Congress’s appropriations have remained steady, or in many cases, grown in recent years.” The complaint continues, “All told, 20,000 full-time employees – almost twenty-five percent of HHS headcount – would be terminated in a few months to save, by Defendants’ own estimate, less than one percent of HHS expenditures.”
