One of the groups most affected by the mysterious illness was the “Latinos for Trump” group, including prominent supporters like Pastor Eli Moreno and his wife, Francesca. While Pastor Moreno reported experiencing only mild discomfort, his wife’s condition was significantly more severe.
“Her vision blurred, her face swelled up, and we had to rush to the nearest Walgreens for help,” Pastor Moreno told Christy Kelly. Despite medical attention, Mrs. Moreno’s symptoms persisted for several days. After her initial visit to the ER, she was referred to an ophthalmologist for further evaluation and care.
Mayra Rodriguez, a former Planned Parenthood whistleblower and prominent Trump supporter, also suffered severe symptoms after the rally. She described the onset of the illness occurring quickly after leaving the event.
“Thirty minutes after leaving the rally, I couldn’t open my eyes due to extreme burning,” Rodriguez explained. “When I got to the hospital, they told me I had a chemical burn. Days later, I’m still dealing with blurry vision and sensitivity to light.”
Rodriguez further shared her troubling experience during an interview with News 4 Tucson, recalling how medical staff repeatedly questioned whether she had been exposed to something unusual.
“The emergency room staff, from the triage nurse to the PA [Physicians Assistant], asked, ‘Are you sure you didn’t get sprayed with something? Your symptoms look like you got sprayed with something,’” she said.
Rodriguez also recounted her ongoing pain: “I can’t see anything when I try to open my eyes. I see a bright light. It hurts, it hurts a lot to open my eyes. I have this cold cloth I put on and take off constantly. It’s horrible.”
News 4 also spoke with a brother and sister who sat near Rodriguez at the rally and experienced similar alarming symptoms. The pair, wishing to remain anonymous, described how their condition worsened over time.
The sister recalled, “It kept getting worse and worse, my eyes were watering a lot, my nose started running, then I started feeling my face get really flushed, and my neck felt like it was on fire, and it just progressed from there.”
Her brother’s symptoms were even more severe: “It was all focused on my eyes, my eyes were red like hell, you know? It’s unbearable. I couldn’t handle it.”
In response to the reports, Danielle Alvarez, a Senior Advisor to Trump’s campaign, addressed the concerns and emphasized the seriousness of the situation.
“The Trump campaign has been collecting information,” Alvarez said. “We remain committed to the countless patriots that attend our high-energy, high-impact rallies across the country.”
While the investigation continues, the exact cause of the symptoms remains unclear. Speculation about chemical exposure or other environmental factors has surfaced, but officials have yet to pinpoint what triggered the health problems experienced by rally attendees.
As the investigation unfolds, many are left wondering whether this is an isolated incident or part of a larger trend of unusual occurrences at political rallies. For now, those affected are still grappling with the physical and emotional toll of the event. Some, like Mayra Rodriguez, are recovering slowly but are left with unanswered questions and lingering health concerns.
With the rally drawing such a large crowd and these mysterious symptoms affecting dozens, the event has raised serious concerns about the safety of future political gatherings. As more information becomes available, the Trump campaign, local authorities, and health officials will undoubtedly be under pressure to find answers and ensure the well-being of all who attend these high-profile events.
