A frightening incident involving President Donald Trump’s Marine One helicopter is raising serious questions about how a known communications problem near Washington, D.C., was allowed to persist until two aircraft came dangerously close in the sky.
The August 4 episode involved Marine One and a commercial passenger jet departing Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
What investigators subsequently discovered was arguably even more troubling than the close encounter itself: the communications system used by Marine One had serious coverage problems, and officials had already been discussing unreliable radio contact before the incident occurred.
