Elon Musk is making waves once again—this time not with rockets, cars, or satellites, but by pulling back the curtain on the bloated, wasteful mess that is Washington, D.C. Speaking at a Cabinet meeting inside the White House, Musk unveiled the jaw-dropping savings the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) expects to deliver in the upcoming fiscal year.
According to Musk, DOGE is set to claw back $150 billion in taxpayer money by tackling fraud, slashing waste, and eliminating redundant or outright ridiculous federal programs.

“Thanks to your fantastic leadership, this amazing Cabinet and the very talented DOGE team, I’m excited to announce that we anticipate savings in FY 26 from reduction of waste and fraud by $150 billion,” Musk declared.
For context, that’s more than the annual budgets of many federal departments combined. And yet, Musk believes this is only scratching the surface. His original goal? A staggering $2 trillion in waste, fraud, and abuse. While he later admitted that number might be a “best-case outcome,” Musk says the real target remains closer to $1 trillion—a figure that still dwarfs what’s been cut so far.
