Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is facing fresh scrutiny over his views on America’s historical obligations to black Americans — handing Republicans another issue to deploy in one of the nation’s most closely watched Senate contests.

The Democratic Senate nominee has repeatedly described slavery and its aftermath in terms of a debt that the United States has yet to repay.

Those comments are now becoming another dividing line between El-Sayed and Republican nominee Mike Rogers as the two battle for Michigan’s open Senate seat.
