A Democratic Socialist congressional candidate found herself at the center of a chaotic confrontation with New York City police after an immigration enforcement operation sparked angry demonstrations outside a hospital.
Darializa Avila Chevalier, the Democratic nominee for New York’s 13th Congressional District, was captured on video falling to the pavement during a heated encounter between protesters and NYPD officers Thursday evening.
The confrontation erupted after federal immigration officers shot a suspect during an attempted arrest in the Marble Hill neighborhood.
