Dr. Peter Hotez, a controversial figure in the vaccine debate, has made headlines yet again, this time with a dire warning. Speaking to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, Hotez predicted that a slew of viruses could hit the United States starting on January 21st, the day after Donald Trump is inaugurated.
“We have some big picture stuff coming down the pike starting on January 21st,” Hotez said during the interview, proceeding to list a series of viruses that could potentially threaten the nation. His alarming forecast included bird flu, a new coronavirus, SARS, mosquito-borne illnesses like dengue and Zika, and even older diseases such as measles, polio, and whooping cough.

Notably absent from Dr. Hotez’s statements was any acknowledgment of how diseases like measles and polio have been linked to illegal immigration. As border states grapple with rising cases of these illnesses, critics argue that Hotez’s focus seems misdirected.
