A federal judge appointed by Barack Obama has taken sharp aim at the Trump-era Department of Justice for its handling of a deportation case involving an alleged MS-13 gang member, demanding more transparency over the administration’s decision to send the dangerous criminal to El Salvador’s high-security mega-prison.
The controversy erupted this week when U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis lashed out at the Trump DOJ following a tense court conference. At the center of the storm is Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national living illegally in Maryland, who was deported in 2019 after being identified as a suspected MS-13 member.
