The Department of Justice has quietly confirmed something Americans have suspected for years: the FBI had boots on the ground during the January 6 Capitol protest—but not just agents. In a newly released report, the DOJ Inspector General revealed that 26 FBI-linked “confidential human sources” (CHSs) were present at the scene during the chaos. The report’s findings have ignited a political firestorm, especially among lawmakers who have long warned of federal overreach and political weaponization of law enforcement.
This latest development has lent new weight to the claims made by some J6 defendants who say they were manipulated or incited by government-affiliated individuals. While the FBI denies directing informants to provoke violence or enter restricted areas, the sheer number of Bureau-linked CHSs present raises chilling questions.
“The report revealed that the FBI had a minor supporting role in responding on Jan. 6, 2021 — largely because the event was not deemed at the highest security level by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),” Fox News explained.
