This isn’t the first time McConnell has clashed with Trump or Scott, but the timing of his remarks has raised eyebrows, given the critical importance of the upcoming election.
McConnell, long seen by some as a GOP establishment figure, has increasingly positioned himself as a critic of the Trump-led wing of the Republican Party. In a new biography titled “The Price of Power,” McConnell delivers a scathing critique of the modern Republican Party, claiming that it has shifted away from the ideals once championed by former President Ronald Reagan. “The MAGA movement is completely wrong,” McConnell states in the book, adding that “Reagan wouldn’t recognize” today’s Republican Party.

But it’s not just Trump that McConnell has targeted. He has also refused to back Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), a popular Republican and staunch Trump supporter. With so much at stake, McConnell’s silence on funding critical Republican candidates has led some to question his loyalty to the party’s conservative base.
