A new migrant caravan made up largely of Hondurans has entered southern Mexico and is continuing its journey north, putting the latest mass migration effort back under the spotlight as the United States heads toward the 2026 midterm elections.
Reports indicate that more than 400 migrants entered Mexico this week after departing Honduras. Mexican reporting has confirmed that a caravan consisting primarily of Honduran and Salvadoran migrants reached Tapachula, Chiapas, where humanitarian groups provided food, water, hygiene supplies and medical assistance.
The group reportedly calls itself “Fe y Esperanza en Dios” and includes men, women and children. Members crossed into Mexico through the Rodolfo Robles international bridge and the Suchiate River before traveling roughly 30 kilometers to Tapachula. Local reports said the migrants planned to continue north through Mexico.
The development has drawn attention in Washington because the caravan is moving toward the United States at a politically sensitive moment. With the midterm elections approaching, immigration and border security are once again major issues for voters and policymakers.
