A growing political clash over immigration enforcement intensified this week after a California Democrat likened U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to “domestic terrorists,” drawing a sharp response from the Department of Homeland Security, which pointed to a dramatic rise in violence directed at federal immigration agents.
The controversy erupted during a visit by Democratic lawmakers to the ICE Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas, where members of Congress criticized the Trump administration’s immigration policies and renewed calls to close the detention facility.
Among the lawmakers attending was Rep. Luz Rivas (D-Calif.), who accused ICE agents of operating in a manner she believes Americans should reject.
