Dems PANIC as Top Members FLEE

The 2024 midterm elections haven’t even begun, but Democrats are already in retreat. Facing growing odds and rising GOP momentum, a number of vulnerable House Democrats are ditching their re-election campaigns to chase higher office—leaving their once-safe seats wide open for Republican takeovers.

On Thursday, Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH) officially announced he’s bowing out of a House re-election bid in favor of a Senate run. The move came on the heels of Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s (D-NH) announcement that she won’t seek re-election, opening a high-stakes Senate race in a state that’s teetering on the edge politically.

Though New Hampshire has historically leaned Democrat in presidential contests, it’s far from a lock. With Shaheen out, Republicans see blood in the water—and popular former GOP Governor Chris Sununu is circling. Sununu, who left office with sky-high approval ratings, is rumored to be eyeing the Senate seat.

A new Quantus Insights poll backs that up, showing Sununu crushing Pappas in a head-to-head matchup, 53% to 44%. That’s a commanding nine-point lead in a state Democrats can’t afford to lose.
