Democrats unanimously rejected President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax package. Now that millions of Americans are seeing the benefits, Republicans say some of those same Democrats suddenly want a piece of the credit.
House Speaker Mike Johnson is calling them out.
Republicans made extending Trump’s first-term tax cuts one of their biggest priorities after winning control of Congress in the 2024 elections. That effort culminated on July 4, 2025, when Trump signed the Working Families Tax Cuts into law.
