The White House Rapid Response account on X flagged the exchange, but the entire clip aired live for viewers to see.
“I haven’t heard anybody in my party saying that illegal immigrants should get access to the health insurance marketplace,” Shaheen declared confidently.
That was all the opening Fox co-host Lawrence Jones needed. You could almost see the grin coming.
“I’m so glad you said that,” Jones responded. “Actually, I have some tape of your Democratic Party members saying this on the debate stage.”
“Let’s play the clip,” he added.
Cue the footage from the 2020 Democratic presidential primary debates. Candidates were asked if they would back healthcare programs that covered illegal immigrants. And just like that — every hand shot up. From Kamala Harris to Bill de Blasio, to fringe candidates like Marianne Williamson, the field was united in supporting benefits for those who broke the law to get into the country.
If you watch closely, you can even see Shaheen stiffen right before the clip rolls. It’s almost as if she knew what was about to hit her.
Jones then drove the point home. “Senator, that’s literally every member of your party,” he said bluntly.
“I beg to disagree with you,” Shaheen snapped back. “I have not said that in the past. In New Hampshire, we do not provide health insurance for illegal immigrants. We have never done that, and you’re just wrong.”
Wrong? Jones had just shown her the proof — Democrats proudly raising their hands in favor of healthcare for illegals.
So what exactly was “wrong”? That’s the question Democrats don’t want to answer.
It wasn’t long ago that the Left was clapping like seals at the idea of giving taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal immigrants. But now that it’s politically toxic, they’re pretending those moments never happened.
Shaheen’s frustrated denial is telling. If even so-called moderates in the Democrat Party are running from their own record, it shows just how damaging this issue has become heading into another heated election cycle.
And if Democrats are hoping to win the shutdown blame game by rewriting history, Thursday’s Fox News exchange made one thing clear: voters still remember.
