Lesko’s approach marks a significant shift from the previous county administration, which steadfastly defended the integrity of past elections. Former Maricopa County Chairman Bill Gates, for instance, called the 2022 election “extremely well-run,” despite numerous operational issues, including the failure of 60% of vote-counting machines on Election Day—a breakdown that disproportionately affected in-person Republican voters.
