The famed guitarist and songwriter, known for his thunderous riffs and unfiltered opinions, didn’t just talk music. He cracked open the door on a chilling chapter of his past: his brush with witchcraft and the spiritual warfare that nearly consumed him.
“I was living in a trailer with my sister,” Mustaine recalled, describing a dark time early in his life. That’s when he discovered his sister had been dabbling in the occult—using a book of witchcraft to put a hex on a man who had left her. To his astonishment, she claimed it worked. The man returned.
Rather than recoil, a curious and rebellious young Mustaine decided to try it out for himself. “He then decided that he would use this book to cast a couple of hexes of his own, which he claims worked,” according to the episode.
