For weeks, the corporate media has breathlessly portrayed President Donald Trump’s Minneapolis immigration enforcement surge as reckless, inflammatory, and dangerous.
Cable panels screamed. Social media activists demanded outrage. Democrat officials played their familiar roles, warning of chaos and invoking past unrest in hopes of turning enforcement into another political weapon.
Then something unexpected happened.
One of Trump’s longtime conservative critics publicly stepped forward and said what liberals never expected to hear.
Gary Abernathy, a conservative columnist who has often taken issue with Trump’s style even while supporting his policies, stunned viewers this week by calling the president “the voice of reason.”
The comment landed like a thunderclap, especially given where it was delivered.
