Former President George W. Bush could “come back” to Washington to succeed Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as House Speaker, according to U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA).
“I could see President George W. Bush serving as Speaker of the House,” Sherman told Forbes. ” He could come back and, you know, and obviously I’m not a real fan of how the Iraq war went, but I would think that any reasonable Republican would be somebody that Democrats could work with work with if it was part of a system where you didn’t have where you didn’t have five of the most extreme Republicans blocking important legislation and saying, ‘If you bring that to the floor for a vote, we’ll knock you out of your Speakership.’”
Jim Jordan (R-OH), the chair of the House Judiciary Committee, would be “among one of the worst Speakers that we could have,” I’ll add that he’d be a “disaster.”
Prior to a vital floor vote, Jordan solicits the support of Republican holdouts. Influential Republicans including Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader, and former President Donald Trump have endorsed him. Jordan wants to bring the House’s conservatives together and win their support.
“My focus is to get Jim Jordan elected Speaker, get this Congress back moving again. It’s one thing to get elected, it’s another thing to govern,” McCarthy said on Monday on Fox News.
Several Republicans in the House who had previously rejected Jordan have suddenly changed their minds, signaling a dramatic shift in the party’s attitude toward him. Representatives Mike Rogers (R-AL), Austin Scott (R-GA), and Ann Wagner (R-MO), among others, have made notable endorsements. It is important to remember that 11 holdouts have yet to join the group, nevertheless. Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) is one of them; he has made it known that he will vote for Kevin McCarthy in protest.

McCarthy currently has no intentions to run again and is certain that Jordan will receive the required number of votes. Jordan can only afford four “no” votes from members of their own party due to the Republican Party’s slim majority.
