In a heated interview with CNN’s Pamela Brown, Walters defended his initiative, including the purchase of 500 Bibles for Advanced Placement (AP) government classrooms and the creation of a new Office of Religious Liberty and Patriotism. The move has drawn significant criticism from left-wing organizations, but Walters remains firm in his belief that the Bible’s historical significance cannot be ignored.
During the interview, Brown questioned Walters about his authority to enforce the use of the Bible in classrooms and the video prayer for the nation’s new leadership, which Walters introduced following President Trump’s victory. Walters responded by highlighting the importance of religious liberty and the foundational role the Bible has played in American history. “The Constitution is crystal clear on religious liberty,” Walters stated, arguing that the left’s attempt to erase the Bible from schools has been detrimental to education and the nation as a whole.

Walters’ stance has not gone without significant opposition. Last month, several organizations, including the ACLU and the Freedom From Religion Foundation, filed lawsuits against Walters and the Oklahoma Department of Education, challenging the Bible mandate. These groups argue that such actions violate the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution. Additionally, a petition to impeach Walters gained traction after a video surfaced where he invited students to participate in a prayer for the country’s leadership.
