Chris Rock has a message for Hollywood’s cultural gatekeepers: once the machinery of public condemnation gets moving, it can become increasingly difficult to stop.
The veteran comedian recently took aim at the modern culture of political correctness, arguing that today’s climate increasingly resembles a system of judgment with little room for forgiveness. His remarks drew a sharp distinction between holding people accountable for their actions and creating an environment in which accusations can threaten careers indefinitely.
Rock delivered the criticism during an appearance on The Daily podcast, where he was discussing his new film, Misty Green. The conversation eventually shifted toward wokeness, giving the comedian an opportunity to explain why he believes the current cultural climate has taken a troubling turn.
“The problem with wokeness is we’re in the Old Testament right now,” Rock said.
“And the Old Testament has no forgiveness.”
