Bill Maher raised the issue of how his once dominant presence in award shows has faded over the years.
“I used to get nominated for everything, and then the wokeness came in, and then I was considered conservative, which was ridiculous,” Maher explained.
That is when Carvey cut in with a line that perfectly summed up the problem.
“Well, I’m a Bill Clinton liberal, which is from the ’90s, which is now called a Nazi,” Carvey said.
The table erupted.
David Spade immediately followed up with his own punchline.
He joked that holding Clinton era views today makes you “far-right” and added, “You’re a White supremacist.”
The humor worked because it reflected something millions of Americans have noticed for years.
How Clinton era Democrats became enemies of their own party
Bill Clinton governed as a pragmatic centrist who openly rejected left wing orthodoxy.
He signed welfare reform. He backed tough on crime policies. He pushed free trade through NAFTA over the objections of labor unions.
Clinton famously declared that “the era of big government is over.”
He also signed the Defense of Marriage Act, defining marriage as between a man and a woman.
Those positions made him wildly popular with suburban and working class voters and delivered him a second term.
Today, every one of those positions would get a Democrat labeled a bigot, a fascist, or worse.
The modern party now embraces massive government spending under banners like Medicare for All.
Democrats who supported border enforcement in the 1990s now accuse ICE agents of being fascists and demand open borders.
Even suggesting traditional marriage is enough to trigger accusations of hate speech.
Gallup data shows just how dramatic the shift has been.
Democrats identifying as liberal jumped from 25 percent in 1994 to 54 percent today.
Back then, moderates made up nearly half the party and conservatives accounted for another quarter.
Those voters were pushed out as activists seized control.
Bill Maher’s Golden Globes loss proves Hollywood enforces obedience
Maher knows the consequences firsthand.
“Sweetheart, I’ve been nominated for 33 Emmys, and they would never give it to me,” Maher said on his podcast before the Golden Globes ceremony.
He explained exactly why.
“Because I speak freely, and this woke town f***ing hates that,” Maher stated.
His prediction proved accurate.
Maher lost the Golden Globe for best stand up comedy on television to Ricky Gervais.
Then came the humiliation.
Presenter Wanda Sykes took a direct shot at Maher during the ceremony.
“You give us so much. But I would love a little less. Just try less,” Sykes said.
The camera cut to a visibly unimpressed Maher.
The message could not have been clearer.
Step out of line and you will be punished.
Democrats abandoned working Americans and paid the price
The cultural shift did not stay confined to Hollywood.
It reshaped the entire Democrat Party.
The white working class that once formed the backbone of Democratic victories walked away.
They were insulted, dismissed, and labeled deplorable.
In their place came radical activists obsessed with pronouns, identity politics, and ideological purity tests.
Union workers were replaced by elite donors and college campus activists.
Even suburban voters reached their limit.
Trump won suburban moms in 2024 because voters were exhausted by chaos, crime, and ideological lecturing.
People can only be told to defund police and accept biological men in women’s bathrooms for so long.
Eventually, they push back.
The truth Carvey exposed without even trying
Dana Carvey was not trying to spark a political firestorm.
He was simply stating an obvious fact.
If you believe what Bill Clinton believed in the 1990s, Democrats today will call you a Nazi.
That is no longer satire.
It is the party’s reality.
And Hollywood is finally starting to notice.
