Cabinet Threat: Capitol Police SWOOP In!

A Massachusetts man is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to enter the U.S. Capitol with dangerous weapons, including makeshift Molotov cocktails, with the reported intent of targeting a member of President Trump’s cabinet.

Ryan Michael English, 24, from South Deerfield, Massachusetts, was hit with a two-count federal indictment this week. Prosecutors allege he attempted to assassinate a Cabinet member and brought dangerous weapons onto Capitol grounds. The charges were filed in the U.S. District Court by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. and U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger.

According to the indictment, English was arrested on January 27, 2025, after reportedly approaching Capitol Police near the South Door of the Capitol Building and declaring, “I’d like to turn myself in.” Officers say they discovered a folding knife and two homemade incendiary devices – small vodka bottles with gray cloth fuses – hidden in the inner pockets of English’s jacket. Police also found a green lighter in another pocket.
