Authorities confirm that the chaos erupted when a white pickup truck was deliberately driven into a crowd of revelers, followed by a barrage of gunfire.
Witnesses described scenes of panic and devastation as the driver plowed into the crowd before exiting the vehicle and opening fire. Two police officers were caught in the crossfire and sustained injuries during the confrontation. The suspect was fatally shot during the gunfight, though it remains unclear whether his death was a result of police action or self-inflicted.

Local Leaders Speak Out Amid Confusion
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell quickly addressed the public, labeling the act as a “terrorist attack” during a press conference. However, FBI Special Agent Aletha Duncan urged caution, stating, “This has not been confirmed.”
