A courageous store employee is accused of murder for protecting his job from thieves. An employee from Kansas City named Carl Kemppainen confronted two shoplifters, which led to a brawl that sadly resulted in the death of one of the crooks. The situation has now changed, and Kemppainen is being punished for his attempts to protect the law.
When two people, including Diamond Steen, 23, were caught stealing, a regular evening at O’Reilly Auto Parts took a deadly turn. The shop staff reacted quickly, called the police and going up to the crooks. Steen was fatally injured and his buddy suffered minor injuries as a result of the violent confrontation that followed. When the police came, they discovered Steen’s airway was closed. Learn more about the surprising aspects of this meeting.
On September 21, Kemppainen was taken into custody and charged with “unintentional but reckless” second-degree murder. Mark Dupree, the district attorney for Wyandotte County, told reporters that even if a crime is suspected, “you still have to go to court.” He added that “it is law enforcement’s job to do the policing, no one else’s.” In the meantime, Steen’s family protested that the store staff should have stayed out of it after only phoning the police.

Despite the fact that Steen is black and Kemppainen is white, Dupree said he doesn’t think racism had a role in the event. He forewarned that further charges may be brought when detectives examine the widely shared social media footage of the altercation and look through “a plethora of evidence.” He said that three more persons may be charged. Kemppainen, in the meantime, had been arrested and brought to the Wyandotte County Detention Center; he was eventually freed after paying a $125,000 bond.
