House Republicans are preparing to move at full speed when the calendar flips to January, with Speaker Mike Johnson confirming an aggressive legislative push to lock in key policies from President Donald Trump. The plan, according to Johnson, centers on codifying a massive portion of Trump’s executive actions into permanent law—ensuring they cannot be easily undone by a future administration.
Speaking Tuesday, Johnson made it clear that Republicans see affordability as the central mission for the coming year. “You’re going to see an aggressive affordability agenda, and we’re going to see continued codification of the President’s executive orders. A very aggressive legislative agenda coming right out of the gates in January. We’re going to continue to work, for example, on health care to continue to bring costs down for the American people, to bring down the cost of living overall,” Johnson declared.
The Speaker explained that Trump’s prolific use of executive authority has created an opportunity for Congress to act decisively. “He’s up to about 200 of those [orders], probably about 150 of them are codifiable by Congress and we’re working steadily through that list. You’re going to see us delivering for the American people while the effects of that giant piece of legislation that we did on July 4th, got signed on July 4th, comes into implementation,” Johnson added.
Johnson also emphasized that the coordination between the White House and House leadership is ongoing and constant. “So much more, much more yet to do and the President and I talk about that almost every day and he’s excited about it and I am,” the Speaker added, signaling that Republicans believe momentum is firmly on their side heading into the new year.
