Tensions in the Middle East are nearing a breaking point after Iran vowed to hold the United States “fully accountable” for backing Israel following a bold series of Israeli airstrikes that reportedly hit Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and took out senior regime figures.
The fiery warning came Friday from Iranian officials, who are pointing the finger directly at Washington amid a region already on edge. Iran’s outrage follows multiple military strikes this week that appear to have severely disrupted key parts of its nuclear program and taken out top-level personnel in the Islamic regime.
In a formal letter to the U.N. Security Council, Iran’s delegation accused Israel of escalating tensions to the brink of war, declaring that Israel “poses a serious threat to international security.” That message was relayed by the United Nations Mission to Iran, according to Fox News.
The diplomatic warning wasn’t just posturing. Iran’s Defense Minister, Aziz Nasirzadeh, issued an ominous threat just days prior, hinting at direct retaliation against American military outposts if Israel strikes again. “Some officials on the other side threaten conflict if negotiations don’t come to fruition,” Nasirzadeh said.
