Dr. Joseph Warren didn’t just preach resistance to British tyranny — he lived it. And when the call came to put his life on the line, he didn’t flinch.
The Doctor Who Became a Revolutionary General
Born in 1741 in Roxbury, Massachusetts, Warren wasn’t just a physician. He was a strategist, an orator, a fighter — and a rebel. While practicing medicine by day, he was working behind the scenes to organize the colonial resistance. He even treated the injured after the infamous Boston Massacre of 1770.
But Warren wasn’t just tending wounds — he was also preparing a nation for war.
“He was in the same league as Paul Revere and Sam Adams,” historian Cynthia A. Kierner told Smithsonian Magazine. “He was a man of respect, a gentleman physician.”
