A shocking new investigation has revealed that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is funding brutal and inhumane animal experiments in Chinese labs. These experiments, many of which are carried out under questionable ethical standards, have sparked outrage among taxpayers and lawmakers alike. The investigation, led by a taxpayer watchdog group, shows that millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars are being funneled into laboratories in China conducting horrific tests on animals, including dogs.
The report, titled “Seeing Red,” was conducted by the White Coat Waste Project (WCW). It uncovered that NIH funding has been funneled to at least 28 animal labs in China. Some of these facilities are reportedly tied to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and even the Chinese military. WCW’s findings show that over $2 million in taxpayer money has gone to these labs, despite their involvement in unethical and often deadly experiments on animals. One particularly shocking revelation involves the testing on beagles, some just days old, where they are subjected to torturous procedures that often end in death.

These NIH-funded labs, including well-known names like Pharmaron and WuXi AppTec, have a history of conducting painful and seemingly unnecessary drug tests on dogs and other animals. For example, Pharmaron currently holds a $124,200 NIH contract specifically to carry out drug testing on beagles. The WCW report also highlights that many of these labs have inflicted severe pain and suffering on animals without a clear scientific purpose. The beagles are often exposed to traumatic procedures, such as severing their spinal cords and forcing them to ingest drugs. These are not isolated incidents, but a pattern of behavior at multiple facilities.
