A troubling review of voter registration records in New Jersey has revealed that hundreds of noncitizens may have been improperly added to the state’s voter rolls over a span of several years. In some instances, individuals reportedly cast ballots in past elections before later requesting to be removed once they realized they were registered, according to documents obtained through public records requests.
The findings come after a sweeping review conducted by the New Jersey Republican Party alongside the Republican National Committee, which examined voter records across all 21 counties in the state. The investigation uncovered multiple cases involving individuals in the process of pursuing U.S. citizenship who said they were unknowingly registered to vote—many of them listed as Democrats on the voter rolls.
Federal and state law clearly prohibits noncitizens from voting in U.S. elections. Several of the individuals flagged in the records reportedly expressed concern that their unintended voter registration status could negatively impact their ongoing naturalization applications.
In a series of letters obtained by Fox News Digital from Atlantic County, Superintendent of Elections and Commissioner of Registration Maureen Bugdon confirmed that noncitizens had personally visited her office requesting removal from the voter rolls after discovering their status.
