Bill Gates has spent decades warning the public about technological and global threats. Now the Microsoft co-founder is sounding one of his starkest alarms yet.
During an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, Gates warned that artificial intelligence could become powerful enough to contribute to a catastrophe on an almost unimaginable scale.
“AI is certainly powerful enough to drive events that, you know, cause a billion deaths,” Gates told Welker.
He followed that warning with another extraordinary assessment:
“There’s never been a weapon as powerful as the combination of people with ill intent using the latest AI tools.”
