Bill Ackman Drops $10K on Controversial ICE GoFundMe!

“I am big believer in our legal principal that one is innocent until proven guilty,” Ackman wrote. “To that end, I supported the @gofundme for Jonathan Ross and intended to similarly support the GoFundMe for Renee Good’s family. Her GoFundMe was closed by the time I attempted to provide support.”

The GoFundMe campaign created for Good’s family—organized to benefit her widowed wife and children—was reportedly shut down after surpassing $1.5 million in donations. The closure occurred before Ackman was able to make a contribution, according to his statement.

Ackman later expanded on his thoughts, describing the deadly encounter as a national tragedy and calling for unity rather than political exploitation of the event.

“The whole situation is a tragedy,” Ackman wrote. “An officer doing his best to do his job, and a protester who likely did not intend to kill the officer but whose actions in a split second led to her death. Our country is stronger if we work together to resolve the complex issues that are tearing us apart.”

Federal authorities allege that Good attempted to use her vehicle as a weapon during the confrontation, striking Ross as ICE agents carried out their duties. Officials stated that Ross—who had previously been injured in a separate vehicle-ramming incident while on duty—responded with deadly force after being clipped by the car.

According to law enforcement, Ross fired one round through the windshield and two additional shots through the open driver’s side window. Federal officials later released video footage showing the tense moments leading up to the shooting, which they say supports the claim that the officer acted defensively.

The GoFundMe campaign for Ross states that the funds are intended to assist with potential legal expenses stemming from the incident. As of Sunday, the fundraiser had surpassed $270,000, with a noticeable spike following Ackman’s public endorsement.

The organizer of Ross’ fundraiser, who does not appear to have a personal relationship with the agent, sharply criticized the separate fundraising effort for Good, dismissing it in blunt terms.

“I feel that the officer that was 1000 percent justified in the shooting deserves to have a GoFundMe,” the organizer wrote, referring to the Good fundraiser as “media bs about a domestic terrorist.”

In a subsequent update, the organizer stated that all donations would be refunded if Ross’ family does not make contact by March 9.

Ackman, the founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, is estimated to be worth approximately $9.3 billion. While critics were quick to mock the size of the donation relative to his wealth—roughly 0.0001075 percent—the gesture nevertheless carried symbolic weight given Ackman’s prominence in finance and politics.

Meanwhile, Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz drew intense backlash after appearing at the shooting site alongside his wife. The visit was highlighted during a Fox News segment, raising questions about political optics amid an ongoing investigation.

“At the crime scene investigation where Renee Good was shot…we believe we saw Gov. Walz’s wife with him as well,” said Fox News reporter Matt Finn during an appearance on “The Faulkner Focus” with host Harris Faulkner.

Social media users responded harshly, accusing Walz of pandering and blaming his administration’s policies for contributing to the chaos surrounding the incident.

“No, that is what pandering looks like. If he had not put in place policies that prevented the cops from doing crowd control, this would never have happened,” one user wrote.

“The guy who allowed billions of taxpayer dollars to be stolen by Somalians and sent to Al-Shabab terrorists is not ‘true leadership,’” another commenter posted.

“Walz is literally going to be investigated for fraud, and you want to grandstand leadership. His political career is finished; this is the pinnacle,” a third added.

As the political and legal fallout continues, Good’s widow has begun speaking publicly about the loss. In a statement to Minnesota Public Radio, Becca Good described her late wife in deeply personal terms, writing that Renee “was made of sunshine.”

The investigation remains ongoing, but the case has already become a flashpoint in the national debate over immigration enforcement, political leadership, and the rule of law—issues that continue to divide the country at a critical moment.
