Meanwhile, the Biden administration doubled down on its coercion tactics. Schools that refused to comply with the administration’s new Title IX guidelines risked losing access to essential meal programs that served millions of children nationwide. It was a blatant effort to use food as leverage to force schools into submission.
In 2023, Indiana GOP Rep. Jim Banks directly confronted then-Education Secretary Miguel Cardona over the administration’s stance on Title IX compliance and its impact on school lunch programs. During a heated exchange at a House Education Committee hearing, Banks pressed Cardona on whether schools that refused to let biological males compete in girls’ sports would be punished by losing federal lunch funding.
“Indiana, my home state, recently passed a law at the state legislature that banned biological males from competing against girls in high school and elementary sports because, obviously, biological males have some physical traits that would give them an advantage in sports over girls,” Banks stated, as reported by Fox News.
“The Education Department, your department, has proposed a rule change that would pull federal funding from schools that don’t allow biological males to compete against girls in sports,” he continued.
“Mr. Secretary, yes or no, does that mean that your department would take away school lunch programs for needy kids because a state or a school won’t allow a boy to compete against a girl in the sports?” Banks pressed.
Cardona dodged the question multiple times. Frustrated, Banks cut through the evasion.
“Madam chair, the answer is yes. This administration would take away school lunches from kids who need that lunch, maybe the only warm meal they might ever get, because of the radical agenda of this administration.”
This shocking revelation laid bare the Biden administration’s willingness to put children at risk to advance its political agenda. The USDA’s National School Lunch Program served 4.9 billion free or reduced-price lunches in fiscal year 2022, yet Biden’s administration was prepared to deny those meals to children if their schools refused to conform.

It’s a stark contrast to the manufactured outrage from the left over Trump’s policy decisions. While they cry foul over Trump’s proposed cuts to wasteful government agencies, they conveniently forget that Biden’s administration was willing to let hungry children suffer for the sake of ideology.
Voters have taken notice. The American people rejected this kind of overreach at the ballot box, and Trump’s return to the White House is proof that they want a leader who prioritizes families over radical policies. But as Democrats feign outrage over Trump’s moves, they should remember their own track record of playing politics with children’s well-being.
