A major showdown erupted Tuesday evening when a federal judge stepped in to protect embattled Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from being removed by President Trump.
In a stunning move, U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb—a Biden appointee—issued a preliminary injunction stopping President Trump, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, and the entire Board of Governors from taking any action to fire Cook while her lawsuit works its way through the courts.
Cook filed the lawsuit last month after Trump removed her from her powerful position on the Federal Reserve Board. The firing stemmed from a series of serious accusations involving mortgage fraud and falsified documents tied to multiple properties owned by Cook.
