In a shocking incident that has raised concerns ahead of the upcoming election, a mailbox containing 20 ballots was set on fire in central Phoenix on Thursday morning. Local authorities are currently investigating the matter, but the motive remains unclear. While it’s still unknown if the arson was politically motivated, this occurrence has further fueled the tension in Arizona, a critical swing state where every vote counts.
The fire, which took place at the intersection of 7th Avenue and Indian School Road, damaged the ballots placed inside the USPS mailbox. The fire department was quick to respond, but by the time they arrived, the damage had been done. The ballots, along with some other mail, were badly affected by the flames. According to ABC 15 Arizona, firefighters had to force the box open to extinguish the fire, but their efforts weren’t enough to save the mail from damage.
