Families Living Among Gangs and Crime
Frustrated parents and activists have taken to the streets, plastering “Shut it down” signs on the doors of suspected brothels during weekend protests. They say gangs have turned their neighborhoods into havens for organized crime.
According to the coalition, Roosevelt Avenue has been carved up by the 18th Street gang, Tren de Aragua, and Chinese criminal networks. Residents claim these groups aren’t just profiting from prostitution — they’re trafficking women and pumping out fake IDs.
The FBI did arrest eight gang members earlier this year after the coalition’s first letter to Patel. But locals say replacements moved in immediately, leaving the situation unchanged.
Rosa Sanchez, a spokesperson for the coalition, gave a chilling description of what families are forced to endure. “The rampant prostitution that we see on our streets 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is having an adverse effect on the mental and spiritual health of our children and families,” she said. Children, she added, should never have to witness “the human tragedy of women being forced to sell their bodies for the profits of traffickers and pimps.”
Sanchez also slammed New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani for pushing the decriminalization of prostitution. “And we say no to legalizing prostitution! Clearly, whoever supports this type of legislation does not have a clue what that would mean for our community,” she declared.
Locals Say State Laws Are Weak
Former state Senator Hiram Monserrate has been organizing these rallies. He praised police efforts but warned that local law enforcement lacks the legal tools to dismantle international crime networks. “State laws do not give our local law enforcement the full range of options that are available to federal law enforcement,” Monserrate explained.
That’s why residents are once again turning to the FBI — because AOC hasn’t delivered.
AOC Offers Bureaucratic Excuses
So what has AOC done? Her office claims she’s asked for federal funding to send to nonprofits that deal with anti-violence initiatives and trafficking victims. That’s it.
While families demand real action, AOC’s solution is to funnel taxpayer money into organizations while gangs continue to operate on her watch.
The hypocrisy couldn’t be clearer. AOC built her career railing against inequality and exploitation. Yet her constituents are begging the FBI to protect their kids from traffickers because their own representative won’t act.
Residents Left With No Representation
These are the very people who sent AOC to Congress, expecting her to fight for them. Instead, they’re left with crime-ridden streets, gang-controlled neighborhoods, and a lawmaker more focused on boosting her national profile than fixing local problems.
Community leaders say they don’t want much — just safe neighborhoods, clean streets, and a chance for their children to grow up without seeing prostitution on every corner. But instead of leadership, they’re getting selfies and soundbites from AOC.
The fact that desperate families had to appeal directly to Kash Patel tells the story. Their representative has abandoned them. Their city is failing them. And now, their last hope rests in federal hands.
AOC could have been the fighter she promised to be. Instead, she’s failed at the most basic duty of public office — protecting the people she swore to serve.
