As security tried to calm the disturbance, the woman continued, “Shame on you, I used to support you. You’re a war criminal! War criminal! War Criminal!”
The unexpected outburst visibly rattled Ocasio-Cortez and set the tone for an already tense evening.
But the real firestorm erupted when the congresswoman addressed a growing controversy involving former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan.
“Tom Homan said he was going to refer me to the DOJ because I’m using my free speech rights in order to advise people of their constitutional protections. To that I say: Come for me, do I look like I care?” she defiantly told the crowd.
Her bravado was met with wild applause from the faithful in attendance, but it might prove to be a serious miscalculation.
Homan previously revealed on Fox News that he had asked the Department of Justice to investigate Ocasio-Cortez for allegedly helping illegal immigrants avoid law enforcement.
“At what level is that impediment?” Homan asked host Laura Ingraham. “I’m not an attorney… Is that impeding our law enforcement efforts?”
He added: “If so, what are we going to do about it? Is she crossing the line? I’m working with the Department of Justice and finding out where is that line that they cross.”
According to Homan, AOC’s past webinars instructing illegal immigrants on how to avoid federal agents might constitute obstruction or interference with law enforcement—a legal gray area that’s now under federal review.
Should the DOJ move forward with Homan’s referral, it would be a historic and highly explosive legal move—potentially placing a sitting member of Congress under investigation or even indictment for aiding those in the country illegally.
While the left might see AOC as a hero for her resistance to federal immigration law, others believe such defiance of the law shouldn’t be tolerated—especially not from elected officials sworn to uphold the Constitution.

If prosecutors determine that her actions indeed crossed the line, it could pave the way for criminal charges, setting a precedent that even the most popular progressives aren’t above the law.
Ironically, such a move could turn AOC into a political martyr. The far-left faction of the Democratic Party would likely rally behind her even more intensely, positioning her as a future frontrunner for national office—perhaps even a presidential contender.
But that outcome might not worry conservatives. As many see it, the more radical the Democratic nominee, the easier the path to victory in 2028 or beyond.
For now, all eyes remain on the DOJ—and whether Tom Homan’s challenge will be the match that lights the fuse.
