Analysis Exposes Late-Night Comedy’s 81% Conservative Slam!

In 2023, a startling 81 percent of political jokes on prominent late-night television shows targeted conservatives, according to a recent research by the Media Research Center.

Between January 3 and December 22, a total of 9,518 political jokes delivered by daily late-night hosts were examined by the media watchdog organization, and 7,729 of them targeted “someone or something on the right side of the political spectrum.” ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers, NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and The Late Late Show with James Corden—which was canceled in April—were among the shows that were examined.

According to a thorough investigation by the watchdog group, Jimmy Kimmel’s show features the greatest proportion of jokes that are critical of conservatives when compared to other programs. 88 percent, or 1,960 jokes, of the 2,215 political jokes that were performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live were directed directly against conservatives.

Kimmel’s jests did not spare any political target. Not surprisingly, 94 people were the target of his satirical sting, with the majority of his humorous ire aimed at conservative personalities. Only 37 jokes, on the other hand, were directed toward those on the left, demonstrating a bias in his humorous intent. It’s important to note that Kimmel saved 11 jokes for nonpartisan people, demonstrating his ability to find humor in all spheres of politics. Former President Donald Trump is the most often targeted person, having taken an astounding 762 jabs from Kimmel’s comic repertoire. In contrast, President Biden experienced Kimmel’s lightheartedness just 164 times.

Vice President Harris received less jeers than Trump’s children, who received an incredible 101 jeers. Hunter Biden, on the other hand, only got nine jokes.

Colbert’s broadcast garnered the interest of 86% of 1,655 conservative viewers, coming in close second to Kimmel.

With 1,416 political jokes in 2023, Fallon’s NBC program ranked sixth, with 66 percent of the gags directed against conservatives. The group saw that Fallon’s share of particular jokes was more evenly distributed. “Fallon poked fun at 196 unique targets, 103 of whom were on the right, 85 of whom were on the left, and 18 of whom were non-partisan,” the watchdog group wrote.

With just 54% of its political jokes directed at conservatives, Corden’s program had the distinction of being the least biased when it was canceled in April.

  2. No surprise there. That’s just what they do. ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel had Chuck Schumer ‘coaching’ him on kimmel’s ‘jokes’ during the last national election.
