Americans Stunned by Omar’s Response to Trump

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

His point was clear: Omar positions herself as a constitutional authority, yet her policy positions often contradict the very principles she claims to champion.

Within a day, Omar fired back on X with exactly the comeback Trump likely anticipated: “Unlike you, I can read and that’s why I know what the constitution says.”³

Dripping with condescension, her reply only reinforced Trump’s critique that she harbors little regard for the Americans who gave her family refuge.

Omar’s Past Explains Why Trump’s Remarks Hit a Nerve

Omar fled Somalia in 1991, spending four years in a Kenyan refugee camp before arriving in the U.S. in 1995 at the age of eight. She became a naturalized citizen in 2000 and, by 2018, was elected to Congress, quickly becoming one of Washington’s most controversial figures.

Her record speaks volumes. In February 2023, Republicans removed Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee due to antisemitic statements, including tweets invoking classic tropes about Jewish influence in politics.⁴ She compared the U.S. and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban in 2021, prompting backlash even from fellow Democrats.⁵

At Columbia University in April 2024, Omar went further, suggesting some Jewish students were *”pro-genocide.”*⁶ Videos later surfaced showing her addressing Somali Americans in Minneapolis, saying “the U.S. government will do what we tell the U.S. government to do,” referring to Somali advocacy efforts.⁷

While Democrats and fact-checkers claimed mistranslations caused controversy, the complaints and calls for resignation reflected a larger pattern of Omar using her office to advance far-left causes while inflaming cultural and political divisions.

White House Prepares the Stage Before Trump’s Comments

This latest exchange traces back to Omar’s October remarks on The Dean Obeidallah Show, where she shrugged off the threat of deportation: *”I have no worry, I don’t know how they’d take away my citizenship and like deport me… I could go live wherever I want.”*⁸

The White House responded with a mocking image of Trump waving goodbye at a McDonald’s drive-thru.⁹ Trump even suggested to reporters he offered Somalia’s president the idea of taking Omar back—an offer Omar called false, labeling Trump a *”lying buffoon.”*¹⁰¹¹

What stood out wasn’t just Omar’s dismissal of deportation risks but her lack of apparent attachment to the U.S. There was no patriotism, no gratitude—just a casual shrug that she could live anywhere. That attitude is exactly what Trump highlighted, and her condescending “I can read” reply confirmed it.

Omar’s Response Exposes Her True Perspective

Omar’s comeback showcased the arrogance Trump criticized. Saying “Unlike you, I can read” is not a constitutional argument—it’s a personal jab implying Trump is illiterate.

Her congressional career has been marked by similar behavior. She lectures Americans about “Islamophobia” while comparing the U.S. to the Taliban, criticizes foreign policy from her committee seat, and accumulates a net worth reportedly between $6 million and $30 million on a $184,000 Congressional salary.¹²

She attends anti-Israel campus protests, celebrates students harassing Jewish classmates, then cries racism when Republicans challenge her conduct. The pattern is clear: exploit American institutions for far-left goals and personal gain, then weaponize identity politics when confronted.

Trump Said What Many Americans Already Knew

Trump’s critique resonated because it echoed what many Americans have long observed. Omar fled a failed state with no functional government, yet she lectures the citizens of the world’s most enduring constitutional republic.

Somalia ranks among the world’s most corrupt nations, with 70% of its population living in extreme poverty.¹³ The country lacks basic government services Americans take for granted—police, courts, and military.

Trump’s point was simple: someone from a failed state shouldn’t lecture Americans on constitutional governance. Omar’s reply, “Unlike you, I can read,” not only validated his criticism but revealed a deep-seated condescension toward the very people she claims to represent.

This attitude may have cost Democrats the 2024 elections, and Omar’s latest exchange shows it’s alive and well in 2025.
