Guest host Malika Andrews introduced the segment by admitting there was “some good news for those of us hitting the road for the holidays.”
ABC News correspondent Elizabeth Shulze laid out the numbers that left the panel with nowhere to hide.
“GasBuddy says the national average price for a gallon of gas down for the fifth straight week,” Shulze reported. “So it’s now $2.75. That’s down 23 cents in one month.”
She also acknowledged that Americans are seeing the cheapest December gas prices since before Biden took office.
Biden’s Energy Disaster Crushed Families Nationwide
These numbers did not happen by accident. They came after years of deliberate policy choices that drove fuel prices to historic highs.
Under Biden, gas prices surged to nearly $5 per gallon in June 2022. Families were forced to choose between filling their tanks and paying for groceries. Many burned through thousands of dollars just trying to get to work.
In a desperate political move, Biden drained the Strategic Petroleum Reserve ahead of the 2022 midterms in an effort to artificially lower prices. It worked briefly. Then prices climbed again.
The administration spent four years restricting domestic production, canceling the Keystone XL pipeline, freezing federal leases, blocking offshore drilling, and piling on billions in energy taxes.
Trump Declares Energy Emergency and Markets Respond
The moment Trump returned to office, everything changed.
On his first day back, Trump signed an executive order declaring a national energy emergency. He promised to “unleash America’s affordable and reliable energy and natural resources.”
Markets reacted immediately.
Crude prices weakened as U.S., Canadian, and OPEC production increased. Refinery output climbed to some of the strongest seasonal levels in years. Gas prices followed suit.
Today, 40 states are seeing average prices below $3 per gallon. In parts of Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas, drivers are paying under $2 per gallon.
Democrats Wanted High Gas Prices on Purpose
For years, Democrats openly admitted they were not trying to lower gas prices.
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm laughed when asked about lowering prices in 2021.
Climate Envoy John Kerry said in 2022 that expensive gas would “accelerate the transition” to electric vehicles Americans do not want.
Biden himself acknowledged his policies would raise costs, calling it a necessary “transition” away from fossil fuels.
They were not failing. They were succeeding at exactly what they intended.
Trump Forces OPEC to Act
Even CNN was forced to admit the truth last year.
CNN business reporter Matt Egan acknowledged that analysts credited Trump’s pressure on OPEC for increasing oil production.
“OPEC refused to pump more during the Biden years,” Egan said. “They are pumping aggressively now, and that is something that the president has pushed them to do.”
That is the difference between weakness and leadership on the world stage.
Excuses Collapse Along With Gas Prices
Democrats blamed everyone but themselves for four years.
They blamed Putin. They blamed oil companies. They blamed “price gouging.” They even tried to take credit when prices temporarily dipped after Biden drained emergency reserves.
Every excuse evaporated the moment Trump took office.
Gas prices did not wait for peace in Ukraine. They did not require new regulations or market manipulation. They dropped because Trump restored confidence in American energy dominance.
Trump signed the emergency order on January 20, 2025.
Five weeks later, gas prices hit a five year low.
The Verdict Is In
Americans know exactly who caused the pain at the pump. And they know exactly who fixed it.
Even ABC News could not hide the truth.
