Green Energy Loans Spark Controversy

The Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 allocated a staggering $1 trillion to green energy initiatives. As the administration’s term drew to a close, officials were under pressure to allocate as much of this funding as possible before incoming President Donald Trump could take office and potentially redirect those funds. Granholm, who served as Michigan’s governor from 2003 to 2011, became the focal point of this rushed spending.

With just four days left in office, Granholm’s Department of Energy (DOE) announced $22.92 billion in loan guarantees for green energy projects spread across 12 states. Notably, over $14 billion of this sum went to two Michigan-based companies, Consumers Energy and DTE Energy. These last-minute loans are now under scrutiny, as they involve entities with deep financial and personal ties to Granholm.
