Patel, who served as a senior aide to former House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA), was instrumental in exposing the flaws of the Russia probe. The investigation itself was rooted in opposition research funded by the Clinton campaign. However, the newly surfaced report reveals that Patel became a target of surveillance as the Department of Justice (DOJ) quietly obtained his phone records alongside those of other Congressional staffers.

The 100-page report details how DOJ prosecutors authorized subpoenas to access private information belonging to two members of Congress and 43 Congressional staffers, including Patel.
