The state of Texas installed a border wall panel in honor of Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl whose tragic murder in June has reignited calls for stricter border security and immigration enforcement.
Jocelyn’s brutal killing, allegedly at the hands of two undocumented immigrants, has left her family and community devastated. Her case has since become a flashpoint in the national immigration debate, with Texas leaders pushing for tougher policies. Among those leading the charge is Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, who unveiled the commemorative panel and announced an ambitious new initiative aimed at preventing such tragedies in the future.

Speaking at the event, Buckingham introduced “The Jocelyn Initiative,” a project designed to repurpose state-owned land for detention and deportation facilities. The initiative, she said, is a direct response to Jocelyn’s murder and a commitment to ensuring no other child suffers a similar fate.
