See here for his whole statement:
The Super Bowl is America’s most cohesive event. Nothing unites us more than this. And for the winning team and its fans, there’s no greater feeling of happiness than celebrating a Super Bowl victory. America’s spirit is deeply wounded by the tragedy that transpired in Kansas City today, taking away this joy.
Events of today ought to shock, move, and embarrass us into taking action. Why do we still have to wait? What more must we observe? How many more broken families are there to be?
It’s time to take action. That’s my position. And I beg the nation to support me. To ensure that assault weapons are eventually outlawed, high-capacity magazine restrictions are imposed, background checks are tightened, and firearms are kept out of the hands of those who have no business handling or possessing them. Please speak up in Congress.
All we need is the guts to carry out what we know to do.
Six years have passed since the Parkland incident, and today we found out that three police officers in Washington, DC were shot while performing their duties, and another school shooting occurred at Benjamin Mays High School in Atlanta. The shooting at Michigan State University one year ago yesterday. In 2024, there have been more mass shootings than there are days in the year.
Every day, the scourge of gun violence is destroying neighborhoods and families. A few become headlines. A large portion of it doesn’t. However, it’s all unacceptable. As a nation, we must choose who we are. In my opinion, everyone in this nation should be able to go to church, to school, to stroll down the street, and even to a Super Bowl party without worrying about being a victim of gun violence.
Jill and I are sending our condolences to the victims of today’s Kansas City tragedy. As a country, let’s unite to stop this senseless gun violence pandemic that is destroying our society.
ALERT! Major Water Restrictions In Effect!
Biden fails to acknowledge that criminals obtain firearms via illegal means; tighter gun control legislation will not stop them.
