Wisconsin Brewer to Trump: You’re Not Welcome!

In an attempt to prevent former President Donald Trump from appearing on the state’s Republican primary ballots, a Wisconsin brewery owner has filed a lawsuit.

Minocqua Brewing Company owner Kirk Bangstad is using a tactic similar to winning lawsuits filed in other states.

Despite the fact that Trump has not been formally charged or tried for this offense, the lawsuit argues that he should not be permitted to hold office due to his involvement in a “insurrection.”

The lawsuit, like others, references Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This amendment was added after the Civil War.

In an interview with Wisconsin Public Radio, Bangstad claimed that Trump repeatedly disseminated untrue information regarding the results of the 2020 election. He also emphasized the fact that many people have been prosecuted and convicted in connection with the protest on January 6.

The liberal activist brought attention to the two former Proud Boys members who were found guilty of seditious conspiracy. It should be mentioned that Enrique Tarrio, one of the men, was not in Washington, DC, at the time of the protest.

“They committed violence against our country because Trump essentially asked them to,” Bangstad said. “There’s no question about that. So to me, it’s worth trying even though it’s an anachronism of an amendment that hasn’t been used since the Civil War.”

An analogous lawsuit has received a favorable ruling from the Colorado Supreme Court. In addition, the US Supreme Court has consented to review this case’s appeal.

Oral arguments are expected to begin in February.

Maine Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows, has decided to prevent Trump from appearing on the Republican primary ballot in her state.

Trump filed an appeal against her ruling on Tuesday.

WPR notes:

The Republican Party of Wisconsin and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, leading the Presidential Preference Selection Committee of Wisconsin, unanimously decided on Tuesday to put seven candidates—including Trump—on the ballot for the state’s upcoming presidential primary in April.

Bangstad berates the U.S. Attorney General and the Attorney General of Wisconsin for not filing a lawsuit to bring charges against Trump.

Democratic governor of Wisconsin Tony Evers expressed his disapproval of the notion of keeping Trump off the ballot. He thinks it’s critical to provide the public a voice.

“Do I think that he has done things that make Donald Trump disqualified?” Evers said. “Yeah, but then people can vote against him.”
